I thought my password was strong until a friend guessed it in two tries.

It was a mix of my dog's name and my old high school mascot, which I found out is a common pattern on data breach lists. Has anyone else had a 'strong' password fail a simple social engineering check?

A chat with a librarian made me stop using PVA for old paper

I was at the local library book sale last week and got talking to their head archivist. She saw me pick up a 1920s novel and said, 'If you're fixing that, skip the PVA, it's too stiff. Try wheat starch paste, it lets the paper move.' I'd always used PVA because it's strong. But she showed me a repaired ledger where the PVA had made the pages brittle. I'm going to give her way a shot on my next repair. Has anyone else switched glues for older books?

I used to think dried beans were a pain, but a $2 bag changed my mind

For years I only bought canned beans because I thought soaking was too much work. Last month I tried a bag of dried pinto beans from the Food Lion in my town and cooked a huge pot. The taste was so much better, and it cost about 60 cents a meal instead of $2.50. Has anyone else found a cheap food that's way better than the quick version?

My custom shimmer ink clogged my favorite pen after 3 days

I mixed a heavy gold mica powder into a sample of Iroshizuku Yama-budo last week, thinking it would be perfect for holiday cards. The ink looked amazing in the vial but completely gummed up the feed of my TWSBI Eco, and I had to take the whole thing apart to clean it. Is there a specific ratio or type of shimmer powder that actually stays suspended without causing these issues?

My old miter saw blade was skipping on cuts for weeks, swapped it out and the difference was night and day.

It was a Diablo 80-tooth blade I'd had for almost three years. Every cut on some oak trim was leaving a rough edge and burning the wood. Put on a fresh one yesterday and the cuts are glass smooth now, no burning at all. How often do you guys actually change out your blades before they get this bad?
