Got roasted by a neighbor for my lazy drywall patch job

Guy next door came over while I was fixing a hole in my hallway and said I was using way too much mud in one pass. Told me to do thin layers and sand between each one. Took me 3 coats instead of 1 but the finish is actually smooth now. Anyone else get called out for rushing a simple fix?

Him actually coming over to your house to say something? That's wild to me. Nobody has ever done that to me before, I'd probably just laugh and close the door honestly. But the thin coat trick is real though, you just gotta let each layer dry completely or it bubbles up real bad (learned that the hard way). Sanding between coats is the part I always try to skip, then end up regretting it when the texture looks like a golf ball. At least you got a smooth finish in the end, that's what counts.
