Snapped a post hole digger handle in three feet of clay in Ohio

Was digging for a new section of privacy fence near Cincinnati last Tuesday and the handle just cracked clean through on a rock. Has anyone else switched to those steel handled diggers or is there another trick for breaking through hard clay?

Clay always finds a way to test your patience, doesn't it?

Ngl a post hole digger handle snapping clean through like that is brutal. Three feet of clay in Ohio is no joke, that stuff gets like concrete once it dries out. I've seen guys snap handles on much less. Those steel handled diggers are a different beast though, they'll transfer all that shock straight to your hands and wrists after a while. You might trade a broken handle for some serious joint pain if you're not careful. Soaking the ground with a hose the day before can help, but that clay still fights back.
