Struck up a chat with a tailor at a laundromat in Ohio about fabric scraps

I was waiting for my work clothes to dry when an older guy next to me started sorting these tiny denim swatches from his bag. He told me he saves every scrap bigger than a credit card and repurposes them into patch pockets or belt loops. Does anyone else hoard fabric remnants or just toss em out?

Hold on though, what does he actually do with the tiny scraps that are smaller than a credit card? I feel like even a dedicated hoarder has to draw a line somewhere before it becomes a fire hazard.

Yeah I used to side with you on that but now I get it, the guy's got a system for everything somehow.
