inRemember when you had to wait a week for the next episode?
Weekly releases build way more hype though. The Bear works as a binge but most shows lose all their staying power when you can just plow through them in a night. Nobody talks about binged shows a week later cause everyone finished it at different times and moved on. That shared waiting experience creates actual water cooler moments and inside jokes that last. Binging just makes shows feel like fast food, you consume it and forget it immediately. Some tension is good, but constant stress without any breathing room is just exhausting not engaging.

inUnpopular opinion: The weirdest tape I ever bought was a 1992 church bake sale video from a bin in Toledo.
Has anyone else noticed how these old tapes are basically time capsules of lost social rules? Like, the cat stealing a muffin is funny now, but back then someone probably just edited it out or left it in because they had no idea what they were doing. It's wild to think there's no soundtrack, no script, just raw awkwardness. The guy zooming in on the cat probably thought it was the most exciting thing happening, which says a lot about how boring bake sales can get. Those moments feel more real than anything we film on purpose today.

inThis week was a total disaster from start to finish
Booking three at once sounds wasteful but it actually works, just stagger their arrival times by 15 mins so you don't end up with three guys in the driveway. The booking fee trick is gold, even five bucks stops most of the no-shows.

inFinally decided to stop using compressed air for cleaning after I found out the moisture thing
I actually see it a bit different from my own experience. I've been using compressed air on computers for probably close to 20 years now and I've never had that problem, but I think the trick is to not blast it directly into the vents. You have to angle it so the air sweeps across the opening, not straight into it, and hold the fan blades still so they don't spin. If you let the fan spin too fast from the air it can actually damage the bearings, which is a real thing.

inThought the whole 'singing sand' thing was a myth until I hiked the Kelso Dunes
I saw a video last year from some geology professor in California who explained that singing sand actually makes a specific frequency around 220 Hz depending on grain size. Apparently the squeak comes from the grains sliding against each other in a really thin layer of air, like a tiny musical instrument. The dryness thing makes total sense because any moisture would mess up that air cushion effect. I think I read somewhere that only about 30 beaches in the whole world reliably do this, which is wild. Makes me want to check out one of those Scottish ones before the weather gets too rough.
