Shoutout to the clinic in Lexington that finally got my forge weld to stick
I was at the Kentucky Horseshoeing School's advanced clinic last spring, and an instructor there showed me a trick with borax and a slower heat. My welds used to crack every time, but after that day, I haven't had a single one fail. Anyone else have a specific trick that fixed a stubborn problem for them?

Honestly I've had the opposite experience. I stopped using borax and my welds got WAY cleaner. That stuff can leave a real mess in the fire if you're not careful.

Borax is a game changer for sure. I kept burning my welds until an old timer told me to watch the color, not the clock. He said get it to a bright yellow, not white hot. That extra few seconds makes all the difference. My success rate went from maybe one in five to almost every time.

Man, that's such a classic piece of advice! It really is all about the color, not the timer. Getting it to that bright yellow takes some practice to spot, but it makes everything flow so much better. Sounds like that old timer saved you a ton of frustration.
