I used to think realistic rivers were boring until I saw a map from a 15th century atlas

Everyone draws rivers that split as they flow downstream, but real rivers almost always join together. I saw an old map in a library book that showed this clearly, and now my fantasy coastlines look way more natural. Has anyone else found old maps to be a good fix for common mistakes?

What book was the atlas in?

My grandma swore her wedding photo was in a blue leather album for 40 years. We found it last month pressed inside her old Bible instead. @danieltaylor, it's funny how our brains store memories with the wrong labels. I've done the same looking for keys I thought were on the counter but were already in my pocket. The memory feels so real, but the details get swapped around.

My friend got so obsessed with finding that exact atlas scene last year! She spent a whole weekend digging through her old family books, convinced it was in a worn-out copy of "The Neverending Story." Turns out she was totally wrong, it was in a big anthology of Greek myths she had as a kid. The memory just got mixed up over time. She felt pretty silly after all that searching.
