At a Denver tech meetup, the CEO said 'we don't do performance reviews'
I was at a startup event in Denver last week and the founder said they scrapped formal reviews for weekly one-on-ones. Some people there thought it was smart to avoid paperwork, but others said you lose track of big goals. What's the better move for keeping a team on track?

So they just talk every week and call it good? How does anyone know if they're actually getting better at their job or just having a nice chat? Weekly catch-ups sound like they could easily skip over the hard stuff you need to hear once in a while. Without a real review, how do you even ask for a raise or know where you stand? It feels like a way for bosses to avoid tough conversations, not some big new idea.

@gibson.sean comparing this to skipping a workout feels a little dramatic, it's just meetings.

Ever notice how ditching a routine, like a weekly workout, makes it way harder to see real progress?
