A tough call on team structure at our Denver office last week
Last week, I had to decide whether to keep our marketing and sales teams separate or merge them under one director. The sales lead, Karen, argued merging would improve communication and speed up client responses. Our marketing head, James, felt it would dilute each group's focus and hurt campaign quality. Has anyone faced a similar structural choice and how did you weigh the trade-offs?

We merged teams at my last job and it just made both groups worse at their jobs. The shared goals never really lined up.

Honestly, is this the kind of thing that keeps you up at night? It's just moving boxes on an org chart. People will figure out how to talk to each other if they have to, no matter who their boss is. I've seen both setups work fine and fail hard, it all comes down to the actual people in the room. Maybe just flip a coin and see what happens.
