Picked the cheap bilge pump over the fancy one. Three months later it paid off.

Had to choose between a $40 Rule pump and a $120 Johnson at West Marine in Annapolis. Went with the cheap one cause money was tight. My bilge filled up during a storm last week. That $40 pump ran for 6 hours straight and never quit. Makes me wonder how much markup we pay for brand names.

Oh man, I did the exact same thing with a freshwater pump a few years back. Went with the $30 off-brand instead of the $70 name brand. Figured I'd replace it if it broke. That was four seasons ago and it's still going strong running the shower and sink on my little sailboat. The expensive one probably would have died by now anyway from all the salt and grime. Sometimes you just get lucky with the cheap stuff.

Did you treat it with any special sealant or just bolt it in raw?
