My boss told me to ignore the silt curtain on a river job in Savannah, said it was a waste of time.

We got a $5,000 fine from the state because our turbidity went way over the limit. Anyone else get burned by skipping what seems like a small step?

Heard about a guy up in Augusta who skipped the proper gravel for a driveway base to save a day. His whole foundation washed out in the first big rain, cost him triple to fix. Those small steps are there for a reason, man.

Yeah, "cost him triple" is the whole story right there. People always look for the shortcut to save a little time or money up front. They forget that the rules, like using the right gravel, were written by people who already made all the mistakes. That guy in Augusta didn't save a day, he bought himself a huge headache and a much bigger bill. It's just not worth it.

Saw a crew skip the silt fence on a small site last year. County shut them down for a week over it.
