My comic shop in Portland used to have a strict 'no bags' policy for new releases.

Wait, they wouldn't even bag a new book for you? I mean, that's just asking for trouble. I started keeping a few spare bags in my car's glove box after a rainstorm wrecked a book I just bought. It's not even about being a hardcore collector, it's just basic protection.

Warning: a customer's simple question made me rethink my whole bench setup

Actually, static isn't really a worry with a soldering iron cord since it's grounded through the iron itself. The bigger issue is exactly what the customer said, the cord can drag across components or transfer heat in a bad way. That hook arm idea is smart because it just gets everything out of the way. What other little habits do we not notice until someone points them out?

Just walked through the new 'Eco-Bloom' store downtown and their 'sustainable' bouquets are wrapped in more plastic than a toy factory.

Actually, cellophane is plant-based, it's made from wood pulp. The sneaky part is that most of it gets a thin plastic coating to make it waterproof, so it's not really plastic-free either. They're both playing with words.

My neighbor swore by a certain route to avoid the 405 mess

Yeah, @willowroberts is right on that one. I always mix up those turns by the old mill. Makes a big difference when you're trying to get across town.

Pro tip: I saw a guy at the IMTS show in Chicago run a job with the spindle off.

We do that at our shop too. I mean, it's not exactly new, but it works. I like to run it at 200% rapid just to speed up the check.
