Guy at the barge told me I was running my cutter too slow and it stuck with me all shift

I was swapping out a cutter head yesterday on the Mississippi job and this older operator, Mike, walked past and just said 'you're burning hours running it that slow, the sand's not gonna jump in the pipe'. He didn't even stop. I thought about it for the next 4 hours and he's right. I've been babying the swing speed to avoid cavitation but the production numbers have been flat. Any of you found a good way to balance cutter RPM against swing speed without burning out the pump?

Honestly my old man used to say the same thing about pouring concrete too slow.

Did he say why slow concrete is the same as slow computers?
