Got into a big talk about slow travel vs. fast travel with another nomad in Chiang Mai

Last week in Chiang Mai, I met a guy who's been moving to a new country every month for three years. He said it keeps him sharp. But I've been in this one apartment for six months, and I feel like I'm finally getting the real vibe of the place. It made me think, is it better to see a lot of places fast, or to really get to know just a few? What's your take on the pace of this life?

Sounds like he's collecting passport stamps, not memories.

Wait, over 300 temples in just the old city? That's a crazy number to even try and see. @james661 is right about the passport stamp thing, but honestly, how could you even remember which temple was which if you're rushing that much. You'd just get them all mixed up.

Chiang Mai's old city has over 300 temples, and I bet that guy missed most of them. Honestly, moving that fast means you only ever see the surface stuff, the stuff meant for tourists. I get what @james661 is saying about stamps, but it's worse than that. You never learn where to get the good cheap food, or which 7-11 clerk is actually nice. Tbh, staying put lets you see the cracks and the good parts that aren't in any guide. That's the stuff that actually sticks with you.
