Just compared a 12-point socket to a 6-point on a rusted Cummins ISX manifold bolt

Had a job on a 2012 Freightliner in Boise last week where the old 12-point socket just rounded off the bolt head. Switched to a 6-point impact socket and it came right off with no slip. The extra contact points made all the difference on that crusty steel. Anyone have a go-to brand for 6-point sockets that can take the heat?

Actually, a worn-out socket can round anything off, regardless of how many points it has.

Hold up, you're blaming the 12-point? That's wild. Sometimes a 12-point is the ONLY thing that fits in a tight spot, and a cheap 6-point would have split open. Maybe that old socket was just worn out or the wrong size. I've seen 6-points round stuff off too if you don't hit it square.

My buddy's 12-point socket rounded off a brand new bolt last week, it was a real mess.
