My kid's smart toy started talking to me from the other room

Okay, so this was a weird Tuesday. I was making dinner, and I hear this little voice from the playroom say, "Hello, who is there?" I thought it was my son, but he was right next to me. I walk in and it's his new robot dog, just sitting there, lit up. I hadn't touched it. I checked the app on my phone, and sure enough, the toy was set to 'always listen' for commands, and the default password was still 'admin123'. I felt so dumb. I changed the password right then, turned off the mic when not in use, and put the thing on its own guest wifi network. It just hit me how much stuff in our house is basically a tiny computer waiting to be hacked. What other smart home gadgets have settings like this that people miss?

Ugh, my smart fridge did that once and it totally freaked me out.

Yeah I saw an article about smart home stuff glitching out and it's way more common than you'd think. They said some fridges even start playing music or showing weird error codes for no reason. Makes you wonder if all this tech is really worth the headache lol. I'm starting to miss my dumb fridge that just kept things cold.
