My credit score tanked 40 points because of a medical bill I never even saw

Honestly, I'm so mad right now. Last month I checked my score and it was 720, which I was really proud of. Then this week I get an alert and it's down to 680. I dug into the report and there's a $150 collection from a clinic in Phoenix from a visit last year. Ngl, I never got a single bill in the mail. I called the clinic and they said they sent it to an old address, even though I updated my info with them. I paid it over the phone immediately, but they said it can take up to 45 days to update the credit bureaus. Has anyone had luck getting a paid medical collection removed faster than that? I'm trying to get a car loan next month and this is a huge problem.

Try disputing it directly with the credit bureaus, which worked for me once after a similar billing ghost story.

Wait, don't you have to contact the company first?

Didn't @campbell.logan's fix just show how often we have to solve problems the system creates?
