My first attempt at a dual protagonist story fell apart completely

I tried writing two POV characters with equal page time, and by chapter 4 one of them just disappeared because I couldn't keep their voice distinct. Did anyone else have to scrap a whole structure and start over with a single narrator?

Four failed attempts at dual protagonist stories taught me that it's not just writing where this falls apart. I noticed at work when my manager tried to split a big project between two team leads both got confused about whose decisions counted. The same thing happens with my friends who try to run a group chat with two admins - eventually one person just stops posting because nobody knows who's supposed to handle what. Writing with two main characters sounds cool in theory but in practice people always drift toward one leader or one voice whether they mean to or not.

I mean, my first dual POV story ended with both characters literally dead on page 42, so at least yours stuck around for a bit.
