Warning: The big hair show in Vegas last year changed my mind on balayage
Everyone at the show was pushing these super fast, 20-minute balayage techniques with new creams and foils. I tried one on a client back home and the lift was totally uneven, especially on her level 5 base. Now I stick to my slower, classic method with freehand painting, even if it takes an hour. Has anyone else had a bad result from those rushed techniques they push at events?

Honestly, I've had great luck with those new creams! You just have to watch the developer time like a hawk.

Wait, you really got good results? Mine turned out so patchy last time. The color was uneven on my roots and the ends got fried. I followed the timing exactly but it still went wrong. Maybe my hair just hates that formula.

Sounds like your hair and that box dye had a messy breakup. In my experience, those timers on the box are more like loose suggestions, not hard rules. Your roots process way faster than your ends because of body heat, so you gotta put the color on the ends first, then go back and do the roots last. Leaving it all on for the full time is a sure way to get fried ends and dark roots.
