Spent $80 on a high-end smoothing serum that ruined my highlights

I bought a salon-brand smoothing serum from a distributor in Chicago last month, $80 for a 4 ounce bottle. After one application my fresh blonde highlights turned a weird brassy orange and I had to spend another $120 on a corrective toner. Has anyone else had a product completely wreck their color work like this?

@troyp37 totally called it with the silicones thing. My sister put some random "miracle" oil stuff on her balayage last year and it turned this weird greenish color, had to chop off like 3 inches. Ended up using that same serum as a makeup brush cleaner since it was useless on hair anyway.

That stuff sounded like it had way too much silicones in it.
