A client in a tiny apartment bathroom taught me a new way to hold my shears

I was doing a house call for a color correction in this old building in the West End, and the only space with a mirror was a bathroom the size of a closet. I had to cut her wet hair while wedged between the toilet and the sink. My elbow kept hitting the wall, so I flipped my shears and started cutting with my thumb pointing down, almost like holding a pencil. It gave me way more control in that tight spot. I've used that grip on three other tricky cuts since then, and it's saved my wrist. Has anyone else picked up a weird technique because of a cramped space?

Totally get that. I once had to do a dry cut on a guy sitting on his kitchen floor because his ceiling was too low to stand. Ended up holding my comb backwards and using the tail end to section, which gave me way more reach. Now I use that method for any client in a wheelchair or low chair.

Honestly @camerona79, that's a clever fix for tight spots, reminds me of trimming my cousin's hair in his tiny apartment bathroom.

I read about @camerona79's trick in a forum once.
