The whole block is arguing if the new traffic circle is a secret landing pad

So they put in this tiny roundabout at the end of my street last month, just to slow cars down... but now half the neighbors are convinced it's a marker for UFO landings. It all started when Mr. Harris from number 42 said he saw strange lights above it at midnight, which was probably just a plane. Next day, the community chat had people posting grainy photos and links to old military base maps. I joked that maybe it's for alien pizza deliveries, but the debate got so heated someone called a town meeting. Now we've got folks measuring the circle's diameter at night with tape measures... it's wild. I just use it to turn around, but listening to the theories is better than any TV show.

Reminds me of when our town installed those smart meters (you know, for electricity). Some folks were sure they were mind control devices. Mrs. Jenkins down the street wrapped hers in tin foil, which messed up the readings. The utility company had to send a guy out to explain it was just counting kilowatts. We had a whole neighborhood watch meeting about it, with people bringing printed internet articles. It died down after a few months, but you still see the occasional foil-wrapped box.

You ever notice how these things spread? My buddy Dan saw a video saying smart meters track your routines for the government. He duct taped a baking sheet around his, completely killed the signal. The power company had to come out and he got slapped with a fine for tampering, like @david_taylor69 mentioned. Took him weeks to admit it was just a weird box counting his AC usage.

Man, it's wild how these stories get legs. Dan's baking sheet thing is just the modern version of putting foil on your TV antenna. People hear "data" and "signal" and their brains jump straight to spy movies. The real kicker is the power company already knows when you're home, they've got your billing address! They don't need a smart meter for that. It's just a faster way to read the same dumb dial.
