Just wasted $400 on a used Kirby Morgan that turned out to be a parts helmet
Bought a KM 37 off a guy in Houston who swore it was fully functional, got it home and found the regulator was seized with salt corrosion and the neck dam was dry-rotted. Took it to my local dive shop and they told me it would cost more to fix than buying a new one. Anyone else get burned buying used gear from Facebook Marketplace?

dude that's brutal, i can't believe he actually swore it was fully functional with that kind of salt damage. a seized regulator is like the first thing you check, how do you miss that unless you're just trying to unload junk on someone. i've bought a couple used helmets off facebook before but only after getting a video call where they actually demo'd it breathing underwater in a bucket or something. sounds like that guy knew exactly what he was doing and probably laughed all the way to the bank after you paid him. $400 is still a lot to drop on something that's basically a paperweight now, i'd be so mad i'd drive back to houston just to knock on his door.

And the regulator wasn't seized, actually, salt just corroded the internal o-rings so air leaks out.

Man I swear this is just how the whole "honest seller" thing works now, it's like people somehow decided that not mentioning the huge obvious problems is the same as being truthful. That bucket test idea is actually super smart though, I'm stealing that for sure next time I buy anything used online.
