PSA: I just learned our shop's old VMC has run for over 100,000 hours
I was digging through some old maintenance logs in the office yesterday, mostly looking for a coolant pump part number. Buried in the back of a drawer was the original delivery sheet for our 2005 Haas VF-2. It had the initial run hour meter reading written on it. I checked the current hours on the machine this morning, did the math, and it's over 102,000. That's like running it 24/7 for almost 12 years straight, which is wild because we're only a one-shift shop. I mean, this thing has been through three shop moves, survived an apprentice who crashed it hard in 2012, and it's still holding tenths. It just keeps going. Makes you wonder what the actual design life on these things is supposed to be. Has anyone else ever checked the total hours on their oldest machine? I'm kinda curious now.

How many hours do you think it has left in it? That's a crazy amount of runtime for a one shift shop, really shows how tough those old ones are. I'd be scared to check ours now.

Stuff from that era just seems to last forever. My dad's old truck is the same way, built like a tank. They just don't make things to handle that kind of use anymore.
