My friend in Denver told me to stop recycling pizza boxes

She said the grease makes them unrecyclable in our city's single stream system, so they just get thrown out at the sorting plant. I checked with our local waste department and she was totally right, they confirmed it's a major contaminant. Now I just compost them instead. Has anyone else had to change a recycling habit because of local rules?

That's so weird, my local place says pizza boxes are fine (they just want you to tear off any super greasy parts). It's crazy how different the rules can be just a few towns over.

Tried selling my old textbooks online first, got a few bucks for the newer editions. For the really outdated ones, I donated them to the local library's annual sale. Some were just too beat up, so I recycled the paper. It beats just trashing them.
