I finally gave up on using soap to clean my cast iron after my grandma in Omaha said she's used a drop for 60 years.

I chose to try her method on my 10-inch skillet last week, and it came out perfectly clean with no damage to the seasoning at all, so has anyone else had a good experience with using a tiny bit of mild soap?

Oh man, I've been treating my pan like a museum piece for years. A little soap and water never hurt mine either, so I guess I just made extra work for myself.

Honestly, it's like we all got the same weird memo about cast iron being this fragile thing. I spent so much time scrubbing with salt and oil, trying to avoid soap like it was poison. My pan is fine with a quick wash, and it's such a time saver. I feel like a fool for all those years of extra work.
