I compared flaxseed oil vs crisco for seasoning and one was way better

I tried seasoning two identical pans last month, one with flaxseed oil and one with plain crisco. Followed the same process for both, three rounds in the oven at 450 degrees. The flaxseed pan looked great at first but started flaking off after a couple weeks of cooking eggs. The crisco pan is still smooth and nonstick. Has anyone else had the flaxseed oil flake off on them too?

Why nobody talks about how fast a raccoon can wipe out your flock

I used to just close up my coop whenever, thought a basic latch was fine. Then last Tuesday I woke up to 3 dead hens and 2 missing. That raccoon popped my little hook latch in about 10 seconds flat. Now I use a carabiner with a spring clip on every door, plus I added a brick on top of the pop door. Has anyone else had to totally rebuild their coop security after a loss?

Got scammed by a fake hostel booking in Bangkok last month

Showed up at what I thought was a legit place on Khao San Road and it was just a locked door with a sign that said 'office closed.' Now I only book through sites that take payment after you check in, anyone else run into ghost listings?

My buddy came over and called my desk a disaster zone - he was right

Last month a friend from work saw my setup and said it looked like a bomb went off in a Staples. Cables everywhere, three coffee mugs from last week, sticky notes plastered over the monitor. He told me to start with just one thing: route the cables behind the desk with some adhesive clips from Amazon. Cost me $12 and 20 minutes, now I can actually see my desk surface. Anyone else have a friend give them a harsh but needed reality check about their workspace?

Debate with my dad about fixing a 20 year old microwave

My dad thinks I should toss my 1998 microwave since the turntable motor died, but I want to swap in a used one for $15 from the local repair shop. He says new ones are safer and more efficient, while I figure keeping it out of a landfill matters more. Which side do you lean on for old appliances that still heat fine?

Spent 4 hours chasing a phantom ground fault on a simple kitchen circuit

I was doing a final inspection on a remodel in Austin last Wednesday and kept getting a ground fault reading on a brand new GFCI outlet. Turns out the drywall crew had nicked the neutral wire behind the box and it was barely touching the metal box. Has anyone else wasted a whole day on something that should have taken 20 minutes?

Hot take: 90s comic fans gatekeep way harder than the people who got into comics through the MCU

I grew up in the 90s and collected X-Men and Spawn. My dad was a huge fan from the 60s. But lately I've been in a few shops where older fans openly mock people for not knowing who Onslaught is or for starting with the movies. I saw a guy get laughed at for asking about a Deadpool run that wasn't Joe Kelly's. That's not enthusiasm, that's just being a jerk. Isn't the whole point of a community to welcome new readers so the industry doesn't die?

My first roll of Portra 400 looked awful compared to the sample shots I saw online

I shot my first roll of Portra 400 last weekend and the colors came out super washed out and greenish... not like the golden warm tone photos everyone posts. I was using a local lab in Austin for processing and standard scans. Turns out the lab was underdeveloping by about 30 seconds because they were rushing through a big batch of film. I sent the same negatives to a different lab in Dallas and the difference was night and day. Has anyone else had a bad experience with a lab messing up your film development on a first try?

Found out my Wyandotte's eggs get darker as the season goes on, never knew that until I looked back at my egg cartons from March

I was reading through a 2019 thread on backyardchickens.com and someone posted their egg color chart going from light tan in spring to almost chocolate brown by November, checked my own records and sure enough same pattern, has anyone else noticed this with their darker breed hens?

Hit 500 foils in one day last week

My book was packed back to back and I did 500 individual foils on three clients. My fingers were cramping by hour six but I pushed through. How many foils is your max before you tap out?
