TIL I was making my own pasta sauce wrong for months

Honestly, I was buying those little cans of tomato paste for my cheap spaghetti sauce. Then my friend in Chicago pointed out that a big 28-ounce can of crushed tomatoes is like $1.20 and makes way more sauce for the money. I felt so dumb for not seeing it. What other simple swaps have you guys found for stuff like this?

Read that using dried beans instead of canned is a huge money saver.

Oh man, that reminds me of the time I tried making my own pizza dough to save cash. I bought the fancy bread flour and everything, but it was such a sticky mess I almost gave up. My neighbor told me to just use all-purpose flour with a little extra kneading, and it worked perfectly. What's a cooking tip that saved you from a kitchen disaster?

Ever try to cook rice without measuring the water? I ended up with a pot of glue once until my grandma told me to just use the first knuckle method. Stick your finger in so the water hits right at that first line on your finger, works every time.
