Vent: Spent $40 on a "starter" jewelery making kit and got junk pliers instead

I bought a cheap set online because I wanted to make wire-wrapped pendants without dropping big cash. The pliers broke on my third twist and the wire was too stiff to shape. Has anyone found a decent budget brand for basic tools that doesn't fall apart?

Oh man, that is so frustrating! I've been burned by cheap kits like that before too, it feels like such a waste of good money once the tools give out.

$40 for a starter kit is exactly what it sounds like. You got junk pliers because that's what the whole kit was, cheap junk. I've been making wire wraps for about 5 years now and I learned the hard way too. My first set of pliers looked decent in the pictures but the hinge pin fell out after two uses. The truth is you can't get good tools for that price, it's just not possible. You're better off spending $20 on one single pair of decent pliers from a hardware store than buying a whole kit online. Wubbers is a solid brand that won't break the bank for basic round nose or chain nose pliers, but you'll still pay $30 or more per pair.
