Worst week of my bricklaying career started with a pigeon
Honestly last Tuesday I show up to this job in Brighton and there's a pigeon nesting in the mortar mix. Took me 20 minutes to get it out and by then the sun was already cooking everything. Then I dropped a brand new trowel down between two walls and had to dig it out with a stick. Ended the day with a load of bricks that were all chipped on one side. Has anyone else had a string of bad luck like that where everything just goes wrong at once?

Wait wait wait. A pigeon in the mortar mix? That's the most cursed thing I've ever heard. Did it just sit there looking at you all smug? I had a similar thing once but it was a rat in my cement bags. Different level of gross. And digging a trowel out with a stick? That's a brutal way to start a shift. Chipped bricks are the final insult too, like the universe just decided you weren't having a good day.

The pigeon probably thought it found a nice warm spot to take a bath or something. I had a seagull once land in my fresh concrete on a driveway pour. That bird did not look sorry at all, just sat there with its feet stuck while we tried to figure out how to get it out without ruining the whole slab. Chipped bricks on top of all that just feels personal, like the universe is laughing at you while you scrape mortar off a trowel you had to fish out with a stick.
