Pro tip: I was watering my succulents on a strict schedule for years

My jade plant started dropping leaves, and a friend in Phoenix said 'they're telling you they're thirsty, not following a calendar'. I've switched to checking the soil with my finger first, has anyone else moved away from set routines?

Your friend in Phoenix is SO right about them telling you they're thirsty. I killed a perfectly good aloe vera by being a slave to the calendar. Now I just lift the pot, if it feels light I know it's time. The finger test is a game changer, my plants look way happier since I stopped the strict schedule.

My fiddle leaf fig finally stopped dropping leaves after I tried that.
