My indoor avocado pit sprout collapsed overnight

I had this beautiful 8 inch sprout from a pit I started in a glass of water back in February, but I moved it to a pot with regular potting soil last week and the stem just went totally limp yesterday. I think the soil stayed too wet, but my friend says the new grow light I got was too strong and scorched it. What's the best way to save a water-started pit after it goes into actual dirt?

Oh man, that's heartbreaking! I actually just read an article about how palliative care focuses on quality of life rather than just fighting the disease at all costs. It really made me think differently about what "winning" looks like in these situations. Your grandmother was lucky to have you there for those four years @ruby_lane. Sometimes the bravest thing is knowing when to stop the aggressive treatments and just be present with someone.
