Rant: Bought a cheap 'universal' flange gasket kit for a job in Erie and it cost me a full day

It was a generic brand from the discount tool truck, and the gasket blew out after about 20 minutes of pressure testing (you know, the kind of thing that makes you just sigh). I lost a whole day's pay, about $400, redoing the work and getting the right Parker part. Has anyone else found a decent budget brand for gaskets that actually holds up, or is it just not worth the risk?

Maybe it's just me but I've had good luck with the Fel-Pro stuff from the parts store. They're not the cheapest but they're way less than OEM and I've never had one fail. I just check the fit before I button everything up.

Totally agree on the Fel-Pro stuff being solid. It's one of those brands where you don't have to guess if it's good or not, you know? Paying a bit more than the absolute cheapest option saves so much headache later. Checking the fit is the real key though, that step makes all the difference. I'd rather spend an extra five minutes there than have to redo the whole job later.
