My group's no-dip rule at board game nights

I think dips are the worst thing you can bring to a table. We had a guy show up with salsa and it ruined a set of cards. Now, if you want to eat, it has to be something you can hold in one hand. Things like apple slices or bread sticks are fine. This keeps the games safe and the focus on playing. Some folks think it's too harsh, but I see it as basic respect. Try explaining grease stains on a vintage board to someone.

Is banning dips really that big a deal?

In our county, they banned dips at all public parks last year. For many people, that meant no more using tobacco during kids' games or picnics. Isn't it a bit harsh to take away something they rely on every day? The ban caused a lot of upset because it felt like overreach. Maybe we should think about better ways to handle these habits instead.

But what about the kids who have to sit next to that stuff... or clean it up later? It's not just a habit, it's gross spit and cans left everywhere. Shouldn't a public park be clean for everyone?
