Had one perfect week at the forge last June and it still sticks with me

I was working on a set of 3 gate hinges for a farm out near Ellensburg and everything just lined up. The coal was steady, the weather was cool, and I nailed the mortise and tenon joints on the first try for once. By Friday I had finished all the scrollwork without a single crack or warp. Have you ever had a stretch where the metal seemed to cooperate like that?

Did you feel like you couldn't mess it up even if you tried? I had that happen once with a big fireplace grate and I swear the metal was just going along with whatever I wanted.

Three years ago I was restoring an old wrought iron fence and the rust just flaked off perfectly under my wire brush like it was butter. @karenm49 you definitely hit on something real with that feeling of the metal working with you instead of against you. It's rare but when it happens you just ride that wave and hope it keeps going.
