Old Park Tool truing stand finally let go on me
Had my Park Tool TS-2 truing stand from like 2008 finally give up. The little plastic centering cone just cracked clean through last Wednesday while I was truing a customer's carbon wheel. Had to finish the job using my old tire lever trick to center the wheel, but it made me realize how much I missed the old all-metal parts they used to make. Anyone else running into plastic bits failing on older shop tools?

Did you happen to catch if the new replacement cones they're selling are the same cheap plastic or did they finally switch back to metal? I've got a TS-2 from around 2010 and I've been babying that centering cone like it's made of glass ever since a buddy told me his cracked on a deep section rim. Makes you wonder how much longer they'll even support these old stands with spare parts.

I mean... people have been saying that plastic cone is gonna crack for like fifteen years now and I've never actually seen one break in person. Had a buddy who tightened his down with channel locks and it still didn't crack. I think if you're not cranking on it like a gorilla you're probably fine. The whole metal vs plastic debate feels like one of those things that gets blown way out of proportion on forums honestly.
