I switched from a 5-gallon bucket to a fabric grow bag for my balcony tomatoes.

The fabric bag gave way better drainage and air to the roots, and my plants doubled in size compared to last year. Anyone else get better results with bags over solid pots?

Saw a video from a gardener who said fabric pots are great for preventing plants from getting root bound. The roots hit the air and stop growing, which makes the plant put more energy into leaves and fruit. That might be why your tomatoes got so big.

Actually saw a follow up video that said the air pruning thing is real, but it doesn't make the plant put energy into fruit. It just makes a denser root ball inside the pot. The bigger fruit is probably from better watering.

It's like how people thrive with a little more breathing room too.
