Cleared out a corner of my yard last Saturday and hit 150 pounds of weeds pulled in one afternoon
I just started grabbing handfuls and tossing them in a contractor bag, didn't realize how much bindweed and crabgrass was hiding behind the shed until I weighed the bag on my bathroom scale. Has anyone else been surprised by how much junk you can pull from a tiny patch of ground?

Well I'll be. You weighed the bag on a bathroom scale? That is something I never would have thought to do, but I kind of respect the commitment. 150 pounds from one little corner sounds like a lot until you think about how heavy wet dirt and roots can get. I pulled a bunch of English ivy from my side yard last spring and my back was sore for two days, but I never thought to weigh it. I bet my pile was close to your number though, that stuff is dense. It is amazing how much hidden junk a small patch of ground can hold once you start yanking.

Actually I kind of see it the opposite way. 150 pounds sounds like a lot but it's probably more like 50 pounds of actual plant matter and 100 pounds of dirt stuck to the roots. That dirt is just regular soil you could have knocked off and left in the yard. I pulled a mess of crabgrass last month and my bag was heavy too but after I shook the dirt off each clump the bucket was barely half as heavy. Weighing it with all that mud on there feels like padding the numbers to make yourself feel like you did more work than you really did. Not saying it wasn't a tough job but bragging about the dirt weight is like bragging about the water weight in a wet towel. Still props for getting out there and clearing that corner out.
