My buddy swore the High Sierra Trail was a beginner route
He told me it was a smooth, easy week with no real challenges. I got to the Bearpaw Meadow section and hit snowpack in late June, which he never mentioned. Ended up turning back near Hamilton Lakes because my gear was all wrong for those conditions. Has anyone else had a friend give them totally wrong trail advice?

A guidebook I read last year specifically warned about snow lingering on that pass until July. @kim.emma is right, that section changes fast and isn't beginner terrain. Getting bad intel on conditions is a classic way to have a bad time out there.

How can someone call that a beginner route? That section is no joke, especially with unexpected snow. Good call turning back when your gear wasn't right.
