Client said our data reports were useless, changed everything
Last quarter a client straight up told me our monthly analytics pack was just noise. They didn't want 20 pages of charts nobody reads. They wanted 3 key numbers that actually drove their decisions. So I stripped it down to just conversion rate, cost per lead, and churn. Added a one sentence takeaway at the top. Took me 3 weeks to rebuild the template. Now all 7 of our clients get the short version. They actually read it now. Anyone else had to completely redo their reporting after brutal feedback?

But wait, is that really an improvement or are you just dumbing things down to make them feel smart? Clients say they want simple numbers, but what they actually need is the full picture so they can ask the right questions. Three metrics sound clean but they hide all the messy context that actually explains why those numbers moved. Half the time the "one sentence takeaway" is just your opinion dressed up as data. You basically let a client who didn't understand the charts dictate your entire reporting structure. That's not brutal feedback, that's the blind leading the blind.
