Just saw the difference in a Garmin G1000 after a full software update

We had a 2015 Cessna 172 in the shop with constant nav database errors and screen lag. After we ran the v7.2.1 update from last quarter, the whole system booted up in under 90 seconds and the map redraw was smooth. The old database files from 2022 were causing major conflicts. Has anyone else dealt with G1000 slowdowns that were fixed by a clean install?

Was it just the nav data causing the lag, or did the update itself fix other things? We had a similar issue with a 2013 model where the old Jeppesen charts in the system memory were dragging everything down, even after newer nav updates. A full database clear and reload from the SD card made it run like new.

Good point, @terrymitchell. Did you have to do a specific reset procedure for that database clear, or just delete the old files?

Clearing the nav database on my old unit was a huge pain. The manual said to just reformat, but it kept throwing error codes until I did the full two-button reset. It's wild how much junk data gets stuck in there over the years.
