I drove two hours to a dark site and my camera battery went dead right away.
All that planning wasted since I didn't charge it up. How do you stop battery problems on trips?

But what if checking isn't enough? In my experience, batteries can seem fine one minute and die the next, even if you checked them. I've had similar issues where a full charge didn't last as long as expected. That's why I always carry spare batteries or a power bank now. It's more about having a backup plan than just trusting the check. A quick look won't tell you how much life is really left in a battery.

Always check your gear first.

Read about a climber who fixed a frayed rope right before a big trip. That extra check probably saved his life lol. Makes you want to double-check everything now.
