Hot take: Manual focus beat auto for my moon shots.
Auto focus always hunted on the moon's edge. Switched to manual and zoomed in live view. Now the craters are crisp every time. Such a simple switch.

Is it really that serious? Auto focus works fine.

Man, you're totally right. My camera would just buzz in and out, trying to focus on the bright glow instead of the actual surface. I'd get home and the whole thing was just a soft white blob. Switching to manual and using the zoom on the screen was the only way I could actually see the shadows in the craters get sharp. It makes all the difference.

Yeah, I've been there too. Auto focus just dances around the moon's bright edge and never locks on. @henderson.brooke, it might seem fine until you zoom in and see all the soft details. Manual let me catch the tiny cracks between craters that auto would miss. Once I made the switch, my shots got so much sharper. It's a game changer for sure.
