Shoutout to the old timer at the feed store who told me to check my soil before planting anything
He pointed at my bag of lime and said "you're guessing, son, and this county is mostly clay" so I spent $15 on a test kit and turns out he was right, my pH was way off, has anyone else had a random stranger save them a whole season of wasted work?

Old guy at the garden center caught me buying fertilizer blind and told me to get a soil test first. Saved my tomato crop that year. My soil was way high in nitrogen so I would have burned everything. Ended up mixing in some bone meal and greensand instead. That one conversation changed how I do everything now. Test first, buy second, plant third.
