Spent $60 on a cheap trowel and it bent on the first day at the Tell es-Safi dig
I figured a basic pointing trowel would be fine for a volunteer dig in Israel, but the thin metal folded right over when I hit a compacted layer. Had to borrow one from the site supervisor for the rest of the week. Anyone have a brand that can actually handle tough soil?

Honestly, cheap tools have their place. That trowel probably would have been fine for softer dirt or a school project. Sometimes you just get a bad spot in the soil or a weird angle and even good tools can bend. I've seen expensive ones fail too. Maybe it's less about the brand and more about learning how to feel for those hard layers before you put your full weight into it.
