Serious question, why are so many techs skipping the amp draw test on compressors?
I watched a guy in our shop replace a perfectly good unit yesterday because he just swapped the relay and called it done. That extra 30 seconds with your meter saves a customer $800 and your reputation.

Watch a guy skip the amp draw and just start swapping parts, it's like watching someone try to fix a TV by just kicking it. You're not a hero for changing a relay in record time, you just turned a thirty second check into a whole new compressor for no reason. That extra minute with your meter isn't a waste, it's the whole job. Guess some techs think the customer is paying for new equipment, not an actual diagnosis.

My buddy's coworker did that last month. Swapped a whole condenser fan motor without checking voltage first. Turned out it was just a bad contactor, cost the customer way more than needed. Felt bad for the homeowner, honestly.
