Had a dryer vent hose blow off and flood a laundry room in under 10 minutes

I was on a call in a split-level house, replacing a dryer belt. The homeowner had shoved the flexible aluminum vent hose back on the wall outlet, but the clamp was missing. I finished the belt, ran a test cycle, and left. Got a panicked call 8 minutes later. The hose blew off, pumping hot, wet air straight into the room. The wallpaper was peeling and the floor was soaked. I raced back, re-secured it with a new clamp from my truck, and spent an hour helping them mop up. Do you guys always check vent connections on every dryer job, or just focus on the repair you were called for?

Did you charge extra for the impromptu steam cleaning, or was that on the house? @caseys52, that mouse nest story sounds about right for this line of work.

Ever try a shop vac with a HEPA filter for that kind of mess? It got the dust and the nest out without blowing it everywhere. Saved me a ton of cleanup time.

Ever see a dryer hose just let go like that? Makes you think about all the weird stuff that can happen in a house (like that time I found a mouse nest in a furnace filter).
