Figured out a trick for stuck fridge ice makers that saved me 45 minutes

Kept running into Samsung ice makers where the arm would freeze up and stop the whole thing. Tried taking it apart to clear the ice twice, took forever. Then I just used a hairdryer on low for 90 seconds pointed at the arm hinge area and it freed right up. Anyone else got a faster method for those units?

I blew out a fridge compressor once trying that hairdryer trick with a different brand. Left it on high for like five minutes and the whole back panel got hot enough to warp the plastic vent. Learned my lesson with the low setting the hard way. Now I just yank the ice bin out and pour warm tap water over the arm for a minute. It cracks the ice off faster than anything and no risk of melting anything important.

Tried that warm water trick on a different brand fridge once and it worked fine but then my wife asked why there was a puddle on the floor and I had to explain I was fighting with an ice maker at midnight... She just shook her head and went back to bed.
