DAE see way more heat exchanger cracks in the last year?
I'm in a small town in Ohio and my shop's call log shows a jump from maybe one a month to three or four. The big change seems to be the switch to that new R454B refrigerant in a lot of new units. It runs at a higher pressure and I swear the thermal stress is just popping those old designs. My buddy at a supply house says the manufacturers are already on version three of the part for some models. Has anyone else had to stock more of these, or is it just my area?

Tell me about it, we're seeing the same spike. That new refrigerant is definitely pushing older designs past their limit.

Ever notice how everything new seems to break faster now? It's not just your heat exchangers, it's like they're building stuff to barely last past the warranty. Feels like we're all just swapping parts for the newest rushed-out design.

Yeah, my last phone's screen went black the day after the two-year contract was up. Felt like it had an alarm clock set. My buddy's washing machine drum fell off a month out of warranty. It's like they have a team of engineers whose only job is to find that exact breaking point.
