My bokashi bin smelled like pickles not rot, I was wrong about it

I kept seeing people swear by bokashi composting in their apartments and I thought it was just another gimmick that would stink up my 400 square foot studio in Chicago. After three weeks of my regular compost bin getting fruit flies I gave it a shot, and the fermented smell is actually kind of mild and not gross at all. Has anyone else found a method they were super skeptical about that actually worked better than expected?

Right? I was fully expecting my bin to smell like a frat house garbage can but it just smells like a jar of pickles that someone left in a closet for a month. Honestly the only downside is now I crave a Reuben every time I open it. You and me both were proved wrong on this one for sure.

This whole thing made me realize how many assumptions we just carry around without ever questioning them, you know? Like we all just accepted that compost bins have to be disgusting because that's what we were told, but life keeps proving that the "obvious" answer is usually wrong. It's honestly kind of refreshing when something simple like a pickle-scented trash can makes you reevaluate all your other stubborn beliefs too.
